Santa Cruz Film Festival 2008

“Slam,” for those not in the know, is a dynamic form of competitive poetry that falls somewhere between hip-hop and Robert Frost. In 2nd Verse, we follow the lives of several Bay Area teenagers as they prepare for the Brave New Visions International Poetry Slam Competition. Despite difficult personal lives, they find inspiration and positivity through Slam, turning into dynamos when they hit the stage to deliver with power and confidence their own stories. They let it all out! With blazing performances by an international crew, 2nd Verse inspires and offers hope for the youth of America and beyond. As one Poet mentions at the competition, “We always hear about and see young people doing negative or stupid things, but how often do we get to see kids doing something peaceful and positive, supporting each other?”
