Four young surfers travel through the war-torn West African nation of Liberia searching for prime surfing spots. This search becomes a quest for understanding, and the surfers record the stories of Liberians they meet along the journey. Sliding Liberia challenges the conventional surf film genre juxtaposing war-torn urban landscapes with images of tropical paradise. Combining classic surf aesthetic with a social documentary ethos, Sliding Liberia reverses basic assumptions and gives a voice for the first time to the people who live in surfer's paradise.
